Why you shouldn't put your chickens near your face.

Nice! I also recommend big leather slippers - my big cornish cross rooster gets so excited when I come in to feed everyone that he sometimes bites my foot. I've grabbed his head a couple of times and he screams like a girly-man and doesn't do it for a while but my feet are starting to look all gladiator-ish with everyone stomping me when I go in (usually I wear smooth bottom flip flops so I don't track poo everywhere).

Here's the slipper motivator:

ohhh....warning for those with awesome hair coloring....my geese LOVE my pink hair. they find it to be very fun to play with and playing gets to be very, very rough at times. they try to 'take' it and play with it. it is funny for about, ohhhh, two seconds. they are very strong and can pull REALLY hard. ow. owwwww.

ice pack? I don't think it can hurt if you don't mash it against your eye or get it too cold (do wrap it in a towel)
Good luck!

Thanks for sharing your story with us as it makes us stop and think of what could happen.

I had a chicken peck a hole in my shoulder, it was about the size of a small pea lol but pretty darn deep! I feel your pain!

I let them on my shoulder - with their heads facing backwards. Not only will I not get pecked, I know when they poop! Chickens like shiny things - eyeballs are shiny!

I'm glad you posted this though, I realize that in my excitement as my fairly new girls get more friendly, I am putting myself and my son who helps a lot with them, at risk for something like this to happen!
