Wierd Coop Behaviour

Ours do the same... All eighteen march themselves up the ladder into the coop around 8:00 each night. My DH and I went out tonight to lock up and peek at them - they are all crammed next to each other, one almost on top of another and one sitting on the POOP BOARD under another one... LOL!! I'm amazed that even in this heat they all love laying close to each other.

Mine also I have started to wait till just before dark and just close the door cuz they are already inside. Then I go in and do a head count and
thats it.

Even my hens had done this. And so do my dogs, and my bird(she spends much of her day out of the cage). Sadly, my turtles dont really have a bed time....

My hens go into their coop earlier than my 5 week old chicks do. I go out just before dark and all are in their coops. I shut the pop door on the chick's coop but not on the hen's house but the hens have an electric fence around their house, run and yard.

lol I guess our chicks know when its nighty time. At about 8:30 every night they get ready to get "tucked in". They all perch together at the door of the run and just hop in and we close them in. The only time they don't like it is when we have to put them in earlier-then they try and scatter. When it starts to rain they all go under rather than in the coop and get their feet all muddy. Maybe the girls are just afraid of the dark

Mine do the same-if it rains they hang out underneath the coop. I think they like the smell, mud, mist etc of the rain on our hot days. But at night, everyone goes inside and cuddles together.
