wierd eggs.

Hi, I am down to two laying chickens so we bought 6 more chicks and just introduced them to the older hens. My husband is about to start a coop remodel so they will all have more space but for now its a little cramped. One of the older chickens just got done molting also. So anyway both of the laying chickens are laying funky eggs. The one that just got done molting is laying long eggs and the other one just laid an egg that had a super thin shell and was flat on one side and wrinkly. Do you guys think they are just stressed out and need more space because of the new chicks or something more sinister?

Stress may be somewhat of a factor, but the freshly molted hen is just starting a new laying cycle, and the other may be ready to go into a molt and end a laying cycle. I don't think you are dealing with a 'sinister' situation.

Are they on layer feed, and do you provide a separate holder for crushed oyster shell, that they can have free choice? Layers need that to produce strong shells.
