Wife wants eye candy! Whats a guy who just wants eggs to do??

If your just going to have one and you want color and flash, go for an Old English Game.
Take your pic from here:

I like the golden duckwing, the BB Red (they have flashy green tails, its hard to see it in the pic), Spangled and Crele. I also like the Red Pyle, that pic doesn't do them justice, someone on the boards has one and he is beautiful.

I have to fess up and agree....I want birds my neighbors will envy

If you want production and she wants eye candy, get both with a dual purpose bird. I would suggest a Faverolle Rooster. The breed is famous for their hens laying DAILY, they are large and a great table bird. The roosters are beautiful, you get your production of eggs and meat. They are EXTREMELY docile as well, which makes them approachable, friendly and down right super easy to handle, even the roosters.
Just my two cents.

check out www.feathersite.com!!!! The site had great pics of all chicken breeds!

On your wifes behalf, roosters are nice to have. They are pretty, but they just sorta complete a flock in my opinion

We had something break into my coop and take my last rooster just last week, and Its amazing how much I realize he is gone. I hear him more now then when he was crowing at all hours of the day.

Good luck!

Adding my 2 cents--you are gonna get rich here!

If you want a brown egg laying flock, a Welsummer roo will ensure that you get very dark eggs, if you choose to hatch from your own flock. Welsummer roos are beautiful, and look like the Kellog's rooster.
They are also supposed to be good with baby chicks.

A Salmon Faverolle roo will have muff, beard, and feathered legs. They are gorgeous. I think that they are also good with baby chicks. Salmon Faverolles lay a light brown/tinted egg.

Not saying you couldn't get a mean one, but both breeds are known for even temperament. The SFs being almost a docile breed.

Everyone knows that Light Brahma ( the magestic ones ) roo's are hand down one of the best all time choices!
