wild bird seed vs. scratch

Nutritional quality of whole is superior unless cracked has just been cracked.

It also allows them to eat more as it is bigger. I only give them a very small bit to get the last of the girls in for the night. It is not their staple diet.I am aware of the nutritional loss as I also grind my own flour and bake my own bread. I use cracked corn for other purposes and do not want 40 metal cans of different grains in the barn, there are already 6.

My chickens will not eat the corn in their scratch; so, I'm thinking of trying the wild bird seed from Wally world, and if scratch is only 10% of their feed, I'm thinking the same for bird seed? They pick out the little seeds in the scratch so why waste money on the corn.

I use bird seed, one with a bunch of small seeds and niger seeds. I toss a little out with some meal worms as their 'scratch' along with some spent brewing grains, and they love it. They hear the mason jar opening and start jumping at me.
