Wild Canadian Goose Egg Breakout Analysis

Whew! Long title. Anyways, every year, we have a wild goose pair hatch a batch of eggs on a small "island" in the middle of our pond. Last year, after the hatch, the goose family left our pond, and we found an unhatched egg in the nest. I broke it open and found a very rotten egg. The dead fetus looked to be 10 days old. Same thing happened this year! We found an unhatched egg, and are about to analyze it. Who wants to follow? There will be pictures!

Alright! I did it! Here's how it went:

We broke it open like this.

It is now very broken.....surprisingly, the smell wasn't that strong! It kinda looked like a deviled egg. Now, let's dig in!

A small unknown thing. Seemed to be gelatinous. This egg was obviously either un-fertile or very young when it died.

Hmmm....this looked like some faint vessels or maybe just membrane. It's hard to see in this pic, but they were light pink.

Very thick membrane!
Sorry guys, this wasn't quite as exciting as last year! Oh well, it was fun for me. Never pass up an opportunity for a science experiment! Maybe next year...
