my dad was just worried about the hawks but never thought of wild cats

Feral cats usually only bother young chicks. They aren't usually much trouble for full grown chickens.

What type of cats are we talking of? Because there are feral domestic cats and then there are truly wild cats, bobcats and cougar, etc.

My cats won't even bother bantams. For safety sake, I would protect them from cats until they are at leat 2/3 their expected adult size. A good rooster or a mama hen is also good for teaching lessons to cats.
