Wild Duck becoming tame?

OK, since she's not a native duck and her presence doesn't interfere with the purpose of the reserve, then just enjoy her tameness. Ducks learn the difference between humans and predators, so I don't think you are putting her in any increased danger.

Since it is a reserve I assume no one is hunting... which would second your opinion I don't think it creates danger for her as long as there are no hunters or animal control officers!!

Aw thanks for the advice guys, kinda keeping her at arms length now, but yesterday another hithero unknown female showed up and now they're both quite content just following one another around.

If she somehow has ducklings again, how is best to avoid death from above via one of the falcons that occasionally circle the island? But in a way that feels natural to them.

And yes, the birdlife here is ridiculously okay with getting up close to humans. It's kinda magical, just a shame when a cat gets on the island. Place is suddenly littered with headless bodies of adolescent birds. Very upsetting

Some type of netting over head would be about the only way to protect them. If these aren’t native I wouldn’t worry about them getting close to you and others. Happy to hear she has a buddy now though.

Awesome she has a buddy now! A net or cloth or anything really to block the sight of them from above would work. Even if they were under a piece of ply wood. You could offer them a large like box or dog house type structure and they would probably choose to keep their babies in the safety of it. Good luck!
