Just got a call from home that there are several wild ducklings in my fenced in side yard that normally houses a cat and 3 chihuahuas. These little guys are way too young to have flown in and mama is no where to be seen. Told my family to take the pets out of the pen and let momma come rescue them. If that fails by dark what do I do with them overnight or longer?? Never raised ducks, just chickens and turkeys.

I've been there 2 years ago. You will need a heat lamp and a thermometer. I just used a regular 60 watt light bulb on top of a metal dog cage. Layed the thermometer onto the floor to make sure it was 85 degrees. Had to put cardboard around the cage, so the one duck we had would not escape. You will also need game bird feeder, non medicated. Dry cat food will work temporary because it's protein content is the same. You will need to crush it. Be prepared to keep them for a while, but be assured they will most likely split in fall. See my story

Hope mama comes back. I do have gamebird nonmedicated for my turkeys and an extra outside brooder if needed but that would not be fun cause I expect to hatch too many chicks and poults over the next month as it is.
