Wild ducks and tame ducks sharing the same pond

Welcome to BYC.
Wild ducks and any migrating fowl can carry disease, so it wouldn't be ideal to let them mix with tame birds.
I'm confident that I can build a shelter and a duck yard that will keep them safe from other ducks (and coyotes and birds of prey), but when we let them out to go to the pond, I don't know how the wild ducks will react. My hope is that wild ducks wouldn't want to have anything to do with them.

If any wild ducks show up that are sick, their droppings will transmit disease to your waterfowl. So they don't have to be in direct contact with wild waterfowl, just their droppings. It is a risk. You need to decide if it is a level of risk you are willing to accept.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

You said she has three 300-acre places. Perhaps could you leave that pond to the wildlife and build her a duck hutch and chicken coop at one of the other places? You could make a smaller pond there that the wild ones wouldn't come to.

Here's a link to get to the Learning Center and Coop Forums, which you can find by merely clicking the Articles tab. Lots of great information in the Learning Center. There's duck articles in there too.
