Sundance came around Diablo and nipped at his neck then trotted out of reach. She wanted to play the I-dare-you-to-try-and-bite-me game.
Diablo didn't want to. He stood there, thoughtfully, and walked over to Sundance. He ran his muzzle across her withers, making a soft wuffing sound.

Oh, well, I'll goad Windstar into playing it later. Sundance forgot about the biting game and stood, enjoying Diablo's muzzle on her withers. Lowering her head, she nickered softly and waited.

Windstar's head kept lowering as she dozed. When it nearly touched the ground, she woke suddenly. Shaking her head, she snorted and pranced a few yards before resuming grazing.

Diablo was still unsure if he was safe to mate her or not. Quietly, he dipped his head down and carried her head up.

"I'm okay!" Sundance lifted her head quickly. When she saw Diablo, she sighed heavily. "Sorry. It's been so long since I've been able to relax, I'm not used to it." She caught a glimpse of Windstar. "I envy her sometimes. She's so laid-back."

Windstar was alternating between grazing and dozing. Currently, she was dozing again. Giving up on trying to fight it, she simply dropped to her knees then her side, falling into deep REM sleep.

"Calm down, Sundance." Diablo murmured, his body barely visible in the moonlight. "Calm down... Everything is alright. You're with me now. I'll protect you with my life. That I promise."

"I'm sorry. It's not you. I have memories. Bad ones." Sundance gazed at Diablo. She rubbed her head against his neck. "Thank you."

"If you ever need someone to talk to... I'm here. Remember that."
Sundance was quiet for several minutes. When she spoke, the words came out in a flood. "I had a foal once in Father's herd. He may have been--but there were a few young stud he hadn't gotten rid of yet. Anyway, sudden rains came. Our herd was in a dry riverbed, and we didn't know--didn't know that the giant water-wall was coming!"

Luna whinnied. "Everyone follow me!" she whinnied, galloping towards the river. Her hooves thundered on the ground.

Sun Burst followed her, feeling a bit guilty. He had never hit or hurt his mate in any way, but the kick he had planted on her rump had seemed to make her go. He sighed and followed her.
