Wild Turkey Gender

If it's a male it will start to grow a beard after 5 months.
Hope things work out for you. Don't know what state you are in. States all have different laws. If you don't keep it in a pen I don't see how they can say you are in possession of it. And you can't help if a wild animal goes in your pen to steel the chicken feed. Course you have told them already how you came about it.
It's a shame how some states have passed such laws. We all watched 'Flipper' when growing up. (Well us older people did anyway) They had a pet Raccoon. When the little boy 'Bud' was asked by a girl if he thought she too could have a pet raccoon someday. He told her to get a dog or a cat and work up from there. I wanted one so bad. Now that I'm older with lots of land I can't have one because the states says "NO". What kind of life does a raccoon have in the wild? If they are not getting run over they are being caught in steel leg traps, or shot, or poisoned, or chased with dogs. Even have a video of one being kicked by a deer when it was trying to eat some corn I had put out. Great life in the wild is it not? As opposed to one being kept as a pet, well fed and loved.
Best of Luck to you.

Raccoons make lousy pets. Sure, they're cute, but when they grow up, they very often get quite aggressive. Yes, I remember Flipper. That show bore absolutely zero resemblance to reality. When I was a kid, you could buy a raccoon in a pet store. Then people would dump them in the woods when they became a PIA, with no survival skills, or they would end up living in a cage for the rest of their lives. What kind of life is that for an animal, that has the instinct to be wild, but no skills to survive? There are good reasons for those laws, and they protect people as well as animals.

I've known people that have raised raccoons and they found they make excellent pets. It's all in how you raise them. I've also known people with squirrels, bob cats and even one trucker that kept a badger in his truck. Not sure how the badger worked out. Wouldn't want to try it. Wouldn't take but one wrong DOT officer to see it and cause problems even if the badger didn't cause any problems it's self.

the closest to wild animals that appear at my house is feral peafowl that show up, and end up staying (I guess they like me talking to them, and the fact I leave feed out for them, or mabe they like my happy flock of chickens)
