Can anyone advise?

We have wild turkeys that roam our area and I have just begun having my first chickens. Is there anyone that can tell me about a disease carried by the droppings of the wild turkeys and is it safe for me to allow my new chickens to roam in the yard where the turkeys are free range? Should I do anything special to the soil to help with the safety since we are wanting to eat the eggs of our chickens?

Thank you so much.

Welcome to BYC. Are you talking about blackhead or histomonosis? It can affect turkeys that are around chickens, so it's worse for the turkeys to mix into an area occupied by chickens. Chickens can get blackhead, but it is rare. Some BYCers have treated chickens with it. I wouldn't worry about eating your eggs, but you may want to become familiar with symptoms of blackhead. Be sure to worm your chickens regularly with SafeGuard liquid goat wormer or Valbazen because it is the heterakis worms that cause this. Here is some info about it: http://www.thepoultrysite.com/diseaseinfo/74/histamonosis-histomoniasis-blackhead
