Carla, something to add to your emergency list: get a sharpie and label your animal, if possible, with a contact name and number. We had a horse show up after a tornado years ago and no local vet could tell who it belonged to.

Our fire is called the Cranston Fire, because it started by the Cranston ranger station. It was Arson, they caught the arsonist someone saw him toss a flare and followed him until the cops caught up.

For some reason sunshine your quote didn't make it on my post..prayers for a safe return!Once this over and I'm back home, I'd like to talk to you about your experience. I'm going to write a BYC article on emergency evacuations to help others should this ever happen to them.
So glad everyone is account for and you and your family are safe. The Carr Fire isn't the only one burning in California.
What type of feeder do you use?
Want to get your input on those feeders; going to PM you, if you don't mind, rather than take this thread off on an unrelated tangent.4" PVC pipes with an elbow at the bottom, they are about 4' tall and the two of them hold 10 -12 lbs of feed I think. I am going to make 2 more

Gary, so glad to hear you get to go home! I have 150 lbs of feed for my chickens at all times and 100 lbs of dog food. Last year there was a fire near us (Wall Fire) and we could leave to go to the store, but they would not let us back in! We learned that we need to be stocked up all the time for any eventuality. Freezer is stocked with people food, gas containers full (for generators, quads, to run the well etc.) and lots of animal feed. We were "stuck" here for 4 days, couldn't leave! Could have been longer. I'm happy your place is safe, you and your animals are safe! Be blessed! Our fire is called the Cranston Fire, because it started by the Cranston ranger station. I may have someone nearby who can take in my flock while I figure things out. But I wanted toI am in Stockton, I can take in chickens here.
Can you describe your property and chicken coop arrangements? It's so nice of you to offer. The situation we're in is the extreme smoke and smoke damage on our cedar siding and inside our home from poor sealing and a broken window. We can't live there.Ron could we have a place to post for people needing help with their chickens? I can take some in at my place in Stockton.
Thank you. A lot more than the birds and half the dogs were lost, truthfully. I also left behind a cow, 2 of the goats I could not get loaded, and my cat. I did open all of the pens before I fled, so can always hope for the best! But, it being the middle of the night and everything, I doubt the birds made it.
I'm excellent at unrelated tangents. I excel in them. I'm certified and everything.Want to get your input on those feeders; going to PM you, if you don't mind, rather than take this thread off on an unrelated tangent.
I suppose a super micro Sharpie could write on beaks?Carla, something to add to your emergency list: get a sharpie and label your animal, if possible, with a contact name and number. We had a horse show up after a tornado years ago and no local vet could tell who it belonged to.
