Wildfire evacuation

A ray of sunshine in the darkness, in deed, @IdyllwildAcres and @orrpeople.

Hang in there @sunshineflock. I know how frustrating it is waiting for news to come. But it will come and we are here for you to vent at whenever you need to. Wish we could all give you hugs and a helping hand physically instead of virtually.:hugs

There were many die hard I am staying behind been through this before folks in Idyllwild who were posting on FB, they were out feeding animals and taking pictures. Very grateful for them for the information and support. Glad nobody was hurt in this fire.

There was a person in the Carr fire that did not evacuate when told to. They are now Dead.

People need to leave when they get an evacuation notice

We get regular evacuation notices during hurricanes and choose to stay. I would never choose to stay if I had to deal with fire. Fire is not to be messed with period.

We went through a hurricane last year. I have too many birds to evacuate and we were not in an evac area. I shut the coops up and hoped for the best during the storm. Everyone made it ok, no losses except we were without power for a week. My coops have auto waterers and the feeders are in the coops. I had a big trash can that I filled with water to gravity feed the waterers at the coops. It worked. We borrowed my sister's generator, they never lost power. It wasn't big enough to power everything so we had it on time share. I would run the well for awhile to make sure the can was full. Luckily we are on top of a hill and the coops are lower so gravity could keep the waterers full.

I ended up having to call them twice - they are inundated. Make sure they get the address correctly written down (she had written the wrong street) - that said, every dispatcher to whom I have spoken has been compassionate and kind. They are stretched beyond measure. If there were mistakes made the first time I called, I could throw no stones. I can only imagine the volume of stressed out, upset people that call; and I was determined to be kind, regardless of the situation. Within about an hour, I received the call they were at my house.
They're going back to my house today, but I had to request it. I"m not sure if they do this automatically. She was super busy and kind of flustered. Also, she insisted they didn't have my three cats, that they would have done a shelter in place with them. But I was told they broke a window and caught all three. She put me on hold and then confirmed they do have them.

The support has been amazing.

We're still under evacuation orders and can't return. Lots of areas have opened, but we're off of the main road that's acting as the southern boundary for the fire. Part of it is showing containment, but there's still active fire in the area from what I'm understanding via the fire maps.

As for bringing home a trailer of animal supplies, the shelter told me they have more than they need right now. But maybe there are other animal rescue groups that would welcome supplies.

I had really good news tonight - the animal control people went out and fed/watered my birds! Of course they can't tell if anyone is missing, but they said there were no dead birds.
They will make them part of their route until evacuations are lifted.
So AWESOME!!! I know they try to help and.support everyone...including people's pets and animals! Such a huge job!!! Thankful for our firefighters, forestry and rescue personnel for all they do!!:woot:bow

Thanks for the update!

It would be very hard not being able to go back home. :hugs

Encouraging news!!! HOPEFULLY you will be able to return home soon!!! Just know they are doing all they can...things get a little hectic and understanding is much appreciated!:love

This is where biosecurity is out the door. Or not depending on how you feel about this.

I haven't wanted to reach out for rescue help, once animal control went to my house and opened the chicken gate and put out more food and water. There were too many animals in urgent need of rescue, so this was a heart sickening risk I had to accept. But there are more options all these days later.

Last night someone on Twitter made some calls and found some shelter options at private homes in the area (Anderson and Cottonwood). Today someone else is coordinating with the Cowboy 911 group to goto my home and rescue the flock. They do mostly large animals, but she said they've been doing lots of chickens, too. I have one home that would be ideal for them, but no one's calling. I'm just sitting here, feeling so grateful for their help, but also frustrated not knowing where they'll take them. But wherever they end up, it's better than being wide open to fleeing predators from the fires.

My very uncertain, not for sure but extremely upsetting news:

When animal control went to my house to put out more food and water, they didn't see a rooster. He always comes out immediately whenever we get home or someone else shows up. He's super vigilant. The thought of losing him makes me sick. But they did see some chickens foraging. I'm so hoping they find some of his sons and rescue them.
