It's a cormorant. Most people call them water turkeys....

My phone camera is pretty bad too. A DSLR with a quality zoom lens definitely helps, but there are some people on here that have posted very good photos with their cell phones.... It's more about getting the fundamentals right than what type of camera you're using. I did a write up on post #85 giving some tips on how to take better photos and explaining some basic guidelines. Most of the tips apply no matter what kind of camera you're using....

We got a short break from the mosquitos yesterday morning. I took advantage and practiced taking some pictures.
I still struggle getting the focus right using a manual lens.

This next one isn’t a very good picture, but I like it because I never knew doves have such beautiful sheen to their feathers.
