I don't think there is another black-coloured swan species so I'm pretty sure it has to be a Black Swan, sorry you can't find much about them but maybe they are not in your area for long periods of time?

With the little birdy I have no idea what exactly it is just because it was so far away and I can't zoom in, there are quite a few species of stint and sandpiper that look almost identical!

Scroll down to "Sandpipers and allies."

I think it could be a sharp tailed sandpiper but again, no real clue.
I think it's a semipalmated sandpiper based on googling images.

Anybody ever gotten a really bad shot that actually turned out to be a really cool shot?

What would make you think it was a bad shot? I think it is a GREAT picture. Lots of detail plus motion suggested by the blurred wing feathers.
Thank you!

I guess I considered it sorta bad because personal preferences. I would've liked the shutter speed higher to freeze the motion on the wing and just the wing being in a different position altogether. I guess it kinda looked weird to me, like it was separating the head from the body.

But nevertheless, I've got nothing to complain about. The light is good and the eye is sharp.
