I am incubating chicken eggs -without an incubator. They are in a bucket with a heat lamp over them in our shed. I thought that the eggs would get humidity from the air, but I just realised that yesterday the humidity was at 70% yesterday and is 62% today. I know that the heat lamp will dry out some of the humidity but will it dry out enough? For the rest of the week it is 50%. The eggs are only two days old - have I done permanent damage? I am new to incubating and am very confused. Please help!

Well, since hens can't really regulate humidity I would assume the eggs will still be ok. You should try to have it at least at 45%. Can you just buy a cheap incubator? By the time you get to lockdown you will probably have spent almost the same amount of money on electricity and time. I have a MagicFly Janoel 12. It's only about 60 dollars on Amazon

Outside humidity doesn't matter. It's the humidity inside the bucket that matters. Just put a thermometer/hygrometer inside the bucket. You can get them from Walmart for $10. Using the heat lamp/bucket is an interesting experiment but I would definitely suggest buying an incubator, if you are actually trying to hatch chicks.....
