will 8 nesting boxes be enough for 30 chickens

I would think so. Probably more than enough. I have always gone with 1 nest box per 4 birds

Quite likely. They tend to lay in just a few. Egg laying, like almost everything else a chicken does, is very social, very flock oriented. They follow the leader and tend to like sitting on warm eggs to lay their own, building a clutch.

Thanks all, I'm taking down the bantam leghorn boxes today and installing the big boxes I got.

I have 20 chickens and most days I only find eggs in 2 or 3 nest boxes. Once in a great while some one will lay one egg in one of the top 3 nest boxes, but mostly they just use the bottom three. When we do our new coop, I am seriously considering jus making one big community nest box.
