I bought 8 feather leg chicks in the pet store, last week, and they are more than a week old on that time. Is it possible that the broody hen will adopt the chicks if their age is 14-18 days old? I read some ways to do it, such as placing the chicks near the broody's hen nest, but she shouldn't see them for at least 2 hours. Then replacing her eggs with chicks at night( 1 egg per chick), without her seeing the chicks, while I place them under her.

She might accept them, but that would be unlikely. Usually you give them the youngest chicks possible; one day olds are the best. Even if she did accept them they are way past being able to imprint on her so they wouldn't recognize her as their mother and wouldn't know to go under her to get warm, etc. It would be best to get her some day olds or let her hatch her own.

Six weeks ago, when she was taking care of her about 2 week old chicks, I tried to put 2 more than a week old chicks, and she accepted 2 of them at afternoon hours, even without using the procedures stated above. Near midnight, when I opened the lights, she began to peck one of the chicks, but she let the other one go under her. I took out both of them, and make them stay in a brooder, until I think it is the right time to free range them, which is about 2 weeks ago. Is it better if they have a mother to take care of them?
I hope that she will adopt them.
