I know they often do, but mine isn't. I separated my 9-month old rooster from the hens 4 days ago because he was showing signs of illness. (Wheezing/coughing/squeeking a bit, gaping, staring off into space when I fed the girls, and not crowing.) I separated him after 24 hrs of symptoms and put him in a dog crate in a shed. We have avian flu in the area, so I want to be careful. By the next day he was eating well and alert, and I haven't observed any other symptoms, but he isn't fully back to his normal self and I don't know if he's sick or just depressed. I don't have any antibiotics on hand - I'm mail ordering them.

Normally he crows all night and day, and rushes at me aggressively when I feed the girls. (He's a bit of a pain!) In the crate I've only heard him crow twice, and he talks to me but doesn't react with aggression when I reach in to change his food and water. He flew around trying to escape one time. The door to the shed is open during the day, so he's getting decent daylight and can hear the hens.

I want to make sure he's well before putting him back with the girls!
