Will a chihuahua kill a chicken?

Quote:
Never heard it put that way, but I think it makes sense. My sister's chihuahua/dachshund mix doesn't mess with my chickens because she grew up with them and was trained not to bother them. One time she wanted to see some new chicks and was chased my the mother hen. She does chase the wild guineas that sometimes fly in our yard

My dog is a 40 pound beagle/britany spaniel mix. Believe it or not, he's never killed or acted aggressive to anything bigger than an anole lizard. He's trained to chase squirrels on command, but he freaks out whenever the squirrels get mad and start chasing him. (It's happened a couple times) He's scared to death of the chickens, and the duck. He avoids them at ALL costs, but the chickens still take advantage of him and charge and peck him. They will corner him and will fluff up their hackles, He HATES this and will yelp and scream bloody murder until I shoo the chickens out of the way and carry him inside. I even had a neighbor ask if my dog was OK. Being that he's mixed with hunting dogs, I'd expect him have more hunting instincts. He is at the ripe age of 13, but he's still got plenty of energy, though not as much stamina.

As the owner of 8 chihuahuas, mine Love my chickens, All of them, But Im sure a chihuahua could kill a chicken if they wanted to, Ive seen some pretty good size chihuahuas out there.

My girls terrorize our chihuahua. He has respect for them. They are the only animals he fears. He thinks he is about 7 foot tall and 200 lbs. but I would not trust him alone with them. He may not kill one but he could do considerable harm. He rules the house.

I have a chihuahua/ jack russel, 15lbs. He loves to chase the chickens, ducks and squirrels, but I don't think he'd know what to do it he actually caught them. Just the thrill of the chase for him, I guess. My rooster stands up to him and he's not quite sure what to think about it.

Chihuahuas were bred solely to be companion dogs (and some say for food), so the hunting instincts are not there. I say your chickens are safe.
