Will a cross Muscovy with a Cayuga Duck lay eggs?

Hello.

I have a very pretty cross bred duck. The farmer who sold her to me said she was Muscovy and Runner Duck, but she looks like Muscovy and Cayuga. She definitely has the markings of a Cayuga with some of the red fleshy face of Muscovy. She flies really well - the farmer told me she would not fly at all.

I understand that my duck is most likely sterile, but will she lay eggs at all?

My daughter has raised both breeds and yes she will lay eggs. We actually have a few Muscovy crosses that we keep for just that reason. Duck eggs are the greatest eggs for baking, so we need a lot of them.

I know this is an old thread. Here are my few questions if you have cross Muscovy with other duck breed.

1) Are they laying well?
2) Is the breed quiet and flighty?
3) Are they growing fast?
4) What kind of characteristics about the cross?

Thanks. I always thought Muscovy will not mate with other duck breed, but who know.

I didn't hatch any eggs from the pair, but I had a very...enthusiastic...Muscovy drake who's favorite companion was our rescued female Pekin mix. The same drake started pursuing our chicken pullets, and found a new home without chickens. Muscovy drakes who are "in the mood" will pursue absolutely everything. I haven't observed them to be discerning gentlemen in any sense.

Muscovy crosses I believe are called "mules". Someone with experience raising mule ducks might be able to answer your questions more thoroughly. But I just wanted to confirm that Muscovy will mate with anything and everything they can catch.
