will a lab kill a chick

I have 3 dogs - crap - ill have to be extra careful lol. Then again theyre all scardey cats lol, still i wldnt put it by them.

I still stand by what I've always said...NO dog is to be trusted with chickens. I love dogs and I still say this. I love my dog but I also love my chickens and that's why my dog is NEVER allowed anywhere near my chickens. There are some cases where people have dogs living in peace with their chickens (as seen on this site) but I would never risk it.

We depend on our dogs to watch the chickens. Without the dogs (four), we wouldn't have any chickens. The dogs we have had run the gamut from strays we have taken in to purebred puppies to an older retriever mutt. All dogs start out never seeing a chicken before. As Purplechicken mentioned, it’s all about the training. It's a hard on concept to get across to a dog that these little creatures are not playthings, they are of the pack. Training and disposition is far more important than the breed of dog. Our 2 lazy labs are great with the chickens. Now, if I could just trust them with a loaf of bread on the counter; that would be a real trick.

My lab and my boxer killed my chickens while I was building the run when the kids accidently lef the back yard gate open, it was over in 5 seconds or less. Now chicks are safe from them or the other wild animals that come out of the state park that surrounds our property.
