Hi! I’m looking in to getting a pet pig has an outdoor pig! I have a place for it to sleep and a good sized back yard that would be all his! But will he ruin my yard? And will grass still grow!? Thanks!

I've had many a pig and have quite a few now. Never had a pig that didn't root.
Whenever mine have gotten on new ground they have made short order of tearing it up.
When we had them free ranging our yard it was amazing how quickly they would tear areas up.
Mine would root the grass up, flip it over, eat the roots and move on. Our yard looked like it had been taken over by mamouth moles.
This year I'm selling out and switching to kunekune pigs. They're known to be pasture pigs and not root as bad as other pigs. The breeders I've talked to say there experience is that they do root some and tear up the ground but not to the extent of other breeds.

Years ago my husband was in FFA. There were quite a number of project pigs on the grounds at the high school. One day they got out and of course they discovered the football field. When my husband found them, the pigs were all in a row side by side progressing purposefully across the manicured field with their noses to (actually under) the ground. This was just before the big game. Let us just say the coach was not happy.

I've never seen a pig who didn't root and ALL pigs are escape artists.

Yes. Pigs root. I have mini piglet inside who is right this very second happily unmaking my son's bed. The best thing to do is section off a part of your yard for the pig to live in and landscape to it's heart's content, and supervised playtime to the rest of it.
