Will a rabbit protect chickens / chase off squirrels?

Rabbits are prey animals, they are not equipped physically or mentally to be guardians. My first guess would be that the rabbit was a male who was behaving aggressively due to testosterone.

If you give the bunny a hand gun and a box of shells them squirrels will stay away! Just don't get the bunny mad!

Try using a big rubber snake to scare the squirrels away. It worked to keep the guinea's out of my peppers.

Rabbit will eventually become prey to a racoon or possum, just like chickens do if not put up.

I had a huge white female pet rabbit that was VERY aggressive toward people inside but when outside she knew she was a target and HATED being there, always tried to hide. Soooo I kept her in until she died of old age.

Now I have not lost a goose to any pedators, have about 30 of them, and 8 ducks that hang out with the geese have also been safe so far. Of course they all stay on the pond for most of the night.

I don't think a rabbit would protect chickens very well, as they them selves are a pray animal. I think they would rather make a run for it, then do any protecting.

Your better off having a angry chicken then a rabbit be the protector.

I am new to the chicken raising, but our daschund loves our chickens, but is a "rodent" chaser. I'm hoping she'll keep the squirrels away. I can see how getting chickens leads to aquiring other animals.
