I need to know whether or not to encourage her to lay so she won't become bound.

What illness does she have? In general, no, a sick chicken won't lay eggs. It takes a lot of energy to produce an egg and a sick chicken will be using its energy to try to get well, not make eggs.

I originally thought she was eggbound. gave her a bath and she released an egg... but she was VERY sick. purple comb and wattles etc. so I got her on tetracycline and she is looking better. so I'm not really sure what is wrong with her. she seems to be improving, but I don't want her to get eggbound if she's still making eggs ya know? I want her to get well

I need to clean her up somehow, her feathers below her vent are pretty nasty.

When my hen was injured, the advice I was given was to keep her in a dark place to recuperate.
Darkness will slow down the egg laying. That gave her more energy to heal.
