Will a White Leghorn go broody?

Hi there. :frow

It isn't common for Leghorn to go broody... but it does happen on rare occasion. Each bird regardless of breed is an individual.

In other words, I wouldn't count on it but no harm in hoping.

Only thing you can do to effect it is provide GOOD nutrition not diminished too much by treats. Plenty of space in coop and pasture (not over crowding). A good secure location to lay. Limiting predator encounters or other stressful conditions.

Broody is hormonal and cannot truly be brought on by us. But providing conditions conducive to a good overall state of well being can help.

Wish I could find the pic of the leghorn broody in a flower pot that I saw in the recent past on here. :love

Yes, leghorns can and do go broody, they just arent as likely to do so as some other breeds. I once picked up a group of white leghorn pullets from a gentleman who had six broody leghorn hens in the flock they were from at the time I was picking up my birds

Like it's already been said, any hen can go broody. I think it helps if the conditions are right, but really it's down to her hormones. I have had an ISA brown go broody on me and raise a chick and I was told that never happens, however she was my only one who did. Currently have a broody Plymouth who's brooding a clutch for me and again that's not a common broody either!
