Will an electric fence keep the chicks IN?

I have a Premier One Fencing system that I wanted to use to keep predators out, as well as giving the chickens a safe area to run around in. Some of the chicks are still small enough to go through the holes, so I'm keeping them inside the coop until they're bigger. They were out today after the coop was moved closer to the house and I put the fence around it, but when one of the smaller chicks went through a hole, others followed.
So now when I come to door they want OUT. I didn't think I should electrify it when they're still small, but is that ok? And would it work at keeping them IN?

Thanks,
Ann

I have Poultry net plus 12/48/3 by 50' that I use to move some of my layers around the yard. I have not electrified it yet, because I am usually out there with them, but I would not worry about the shock. My two EE's regularly fly over the fence, but their wings are not clipped.

I haven't clipped their wings yet either. Today I shortened the space for them outside the coop, which gave me enough fencing to triple each section. My grandkids came over for a bit and we let them out and they didn't go through the netting. I think I'll stick to feeding them their food (and worms) while inside the coop only. Otherwise, when they're running from the others with a worm they won't try to run through the netting. I'll see how they do tomorrow.
