Will BBQ smoke affect the respiratory system?

Sounds like a family gathering party to me so I don’t think it will be often as in every day. The coop is pretty far from the bbq area but I don’t know the exact distance. The neighbor is just cooking, no fire, I closed the coop just to be safe. It looks like they stopped cooking for now and are all inside, I can still smell a bit of smoke though if I go close enough to the bbq area though.

We had wildfires here last fall that smoke hung in the trees and the air quality was rated as "hazardous to everyone". It burned the eyes even in the house with windows closed. It went on from mid August to October. Some days were worse than others but it was an everyday thing for over 2 months.
No ill effects on my 19 chickens and 7 ducks.

My neighbors on both sides have fire pits and use them often.

I wouldn't worry to much.

My hubby and I competed in BBQ contests for many years (think BBQ Pitmasters tv show. We competed against, and sometimes beat those guys!). In terms of smoke, there’s a big difference between just cooking some burgers and hotdogs on the grill and smoking a brisket for fourteen hours. If it’s just a family cookout, your chickens should be fine. If they were downwind from my house? Well, let’s just say they’d be smelling some fiiiiiiiiine ’Q!
