Hello all! I'm happy to say We're moving back to Medford in a month and I can finally get my dream, friendly chickens that lay eggs. What are the best breeds that have a good temperament to be around kids and dogs, lays eggs. My in-laws and self don't mind what color they are, but my husband will only eat white. Should I just get all brown and let him buy his eggs-awful, or could I have some chickens that lay brown and some that lay white? Thank you thank you in advance for any and all help :)

sure you can have breeds that lay white eggs, and some that lay brown - some even that lay really dark eggs, some that lay green, blue, or pink eggs

Eggs is eggs, I imagine they all taste the same - but some people really go for the colored ones

I just wasn't sure if all chickens got along with other types of chickens.

Mostly. There aren't like certain breeds that don't get along

I think some breeds due tend to flock together - chickens do peck and fuss and fight to establish pecking order regardless of breed. The breeds with big crests like polish and silkies tend to get picked on more because the crests attract other breeds that like to pull out their feathers. The crests also obscure their vision so they are easy prey for predators. They would do better kept separately. Sikies rarely roost and prefer to pile up on the floor .So they benefit by having others of their breed to cuddle with.
