I'm another neutered male cat owner whose cats still spray. Neutering may curb it a bit, but won't necessarily stop it completely, particularly once they have started the behavior. That's just nature.

I am not saying don't neuter him, just that it's instinctual behavior. Surgery can't take that away.

I had 10 of my barn cat/strays fixed last november. Of the 10 there were 6 toms. 3 of which were over 3 years. They still spray to this day. Not as often but they still do. More so lately as we have some new stray tomes that I am trying to trap that keep spraying everything around here!

Neutered males can and do spray ( I've heard even neutered females can spray). My 2 neutered boys spray and howl at everyting outside. They've never done it inside though. Usually you can tell a tom is fixed just by looking at his bits and pieces. Unneutered males testicals will look full and "in you face" when you view them from behind, unlike my fixed boys who were left with empty looking little sacks.

I have two neutered male cats... one sprays and one does not.
The one that sprays has always sprayed and is 10yo, the younger male 2yo does not spray.

this is just my two cents worth. With our cats it seemed to depend on at what age they where neutured. If it was done before they ever started, they never did, but the two we had done after they where adults and spraying, it didn't stop it at all. Though it seemed like the smell was a little less, they still where banned from the house. Good luck with your kitty.

I have 5yo male that was neutered at 4 months. When a tom started hanging around my guy started marking his territory. I guess I'm his territory because the idiot even sprayed my pants leg.

Needless to say he only did it once.
