I had a gentleman to approach me while I was out feeding my 20wk old chicken (17 hens and 1 roo) he told me that the chickens can eat scraps from anything left over from the tabe. Will that hurt them???????

No, it won't hurt them to have scraps. You can look at the top of the feeding & watering category to see a list of acceptable foods. I avoid giving mine heavily spiced and/or overly salty foods.
The only time it can become a problem is if you feed them so much of one food that it throws off the balance of their nutrients.
My DH's mother raised chickens successfully for many, many years on nothing but cracked corn and table scraps. Is that the best way to feed them? Probably not, but it didn't kill them either.

He was right just watch the salt and get a list of the things that are no good for them, there is a good one floating around on this boards. you will enjoy feeding scrapes that would otherwise be wasted in the trash and the birds have a ton of fun and excersize from it.

Most anything that you would eat, your chickens will also enjoy as a treat. As said above, avoiding overly spicy/salty foods is always a good idea.

The only thing not mentioned that might be bad is feeding your chickens things like onions and garlic. I guess it might give the eggs a wierd taste, so try and avoid those as well.
