will chickens drink from a hanging water bottle?

I plan on using the rabbit water bottle for my six standard chicks but I don't know how it'll work yet so I'll be watching this thread!!!

Tabby,

I'm using the nipple waterers exclusively in my pens in the bottoms of 5 gallon buckets. I LOVELOVELOVE them!! I'm watering once a WEEK on the pens (I keep a tiny bit of Oxine in the water to keep it clear). On my caged birds & babies, it's 2x day watering still, ugh. I use rabbit waterers a lot with the babies and caged birds (like the Seramas), but I prefer the nipple waterers. You guys need to come out here and we can chat about waterers

Here are the ones I bought. You could hang a 5 gallon bucket with a few of these in each tractor (on the heavy rolling/pushing end) and fill with a bucket or a hose. http://www.qcsupply.com/qcsupply/br...sp?productId=420006&categoryId=&fromPage=cart

Is it hard for the chickens to figure out the nipple waterers after they've been on the usual fill and flip type founts? I want to switch my six week old pullets over to a nipple waterer on a 2 or 5 gallon bucket - is that going to be hard to teach them to use the nipples? I will switch them when they go to the coop which is about two weeks away.

Just tap on the waterer and when you get their attention, start tapping the nipple until you get a steady stream of water. Running water attracts chickens like a magnet. Also, the nipple itself has a deep orange/red base to attract them too. Be strong though, and do not use any other type of waterer in the coop other than the nipple waterer. If you do, they'll take the easy way out! You can also pick up a chicken and tap their beak to the waterer too, I've done this before and it works. Just find something that will work for you!
