I add dried leaves in the winter and muddy spring once a week (bagged & stored in the shed). I think it is their favorite day of the week! Keeps the run dry and the girls love it. They are completely broken down in a day or two. Make great compost!

In general a healthy chicken will understand naturally what it can eat or not. I have a huge pokeweed in my garden that my chickens have stripped clean, despite supposedly being poisonous. To this day I've never seen any plant harm any chickenMy chickens keep eating the leaves off my plum, plout and nectarine tree. I've been worried that it's bad for them, so I've been raking them up daily. But I feel like I should be leaving them. Can I leave them (if they're eating them)? It's fall, and they're falling every day, so I was worried about the comment I hear about wilting leaves & leaves touched by a frost. Any insight would be so wonderful! Thank you!
Thank you! I really appreciate the insight and quick response! This is my first time being on backyardchickens as a member!
