Will chickens perch on a picket fence???

Beware of picket fences and chickens!
We have picket fenceing round our whole garden and our girls are CONSTANTLY going over it. They perch on the top as well.

My beware warning is that we have now (as of 30 mins ago) lost 2 hens to the pickets. If they slip whilst going over their heads go between the pickets and they hang themselves. It's a pretty instant death but having had this twice now (thought the first was a freak accident) I'm going to get rid of the pickets for something more solid.

Hope this helps people thinking about fencing as a deterrent, they still manage over and to sit on top.

So sorry about your losses, but it does make sense. Chickens are good at accidentally killing themselves in creative ways.
