Will chicks be ok in a vari kennel temporarily?

So we have chickies that are about 7 weeks old. We have a large pen that we finished building that is totally preditor proof. We are still working on the coop. I really want to get them out of the brooder box! We put them in the run as often as we can but it is difficult to catch them to bring them in and out. If I put a vari-kennel (plastic dog crate) in the pen, can we just leave them out there all night and weather?

If your pen is secure, I don't know why not as long as it's big enough for all of them.

I wish I had a place to let my little ones out.... I have to get my 10 week olds into the main coop and use their "intermediate" coop for the next generation coming out of the brooder
