Will Diatomaceous Earth kill lice on goats?

If you dont want to use wormer you can use Sevin Dust and can get it in the garden dept. It wont hurt the little guy and should clear it up and I would sprinkle it on the bedding also. I use DE where my chickens dust themselves and its helped keep critterbugs off them. It might work on goats also with no ill effects. I know it wont work if it gets wet.

Thing here is, you don't have to inject the injectable Ivermec. It's given orally by most producers. I personally prefer topical (or pour on) Ivermec to the injectable because it contains DMSO, so when you give it orally it's immediately absorbed through the mouth lining and there isn't any conversion issue in the stomachs. I've also used it as it was intended (on the skin) with many of my goats with no ill effect - which is the least possible stress! They don't even know you did it. I have had a couple goats have skin irritation from it topically (notably all of them were black goats) so they get it orally now.

To me, this is preferable to the paste wormers because they can't spit it out.

Miron - the Ivermec is just a tiny dosage. It goes through the body on its own. No need to do any more than dose it and walk away. Easy.

Im like Kate there and use pour-on and give it orally also. I have cattle and its just more economical for me to buy the pour-on and use on both. I do get the wormer that will get lucg worms also and most pastes just get tape worms. I use all for different reasons.

Thanks for all the great info. I wormed him yesterday. He is not in the best condition but he is looking better poor little guy. His coat is really ugly and he is has little cuts in the corner of his mouth. He is eating well so I think in a few wks he will look like a different baby.

Sorry for a dumb questions on the topic of worming,

.....But when you all mention a "pour on" are you saying you --pour on the animal? like Frontline or Advantage, physically pour on them? --- Or do you mean you pour on say a cattle rub so they rub against it & the lice medicine gets poured on that way? --- Or pour on their feed so they eat it without even knowing it?-- & When you say "paste" do you mean the kind that comes in a medicine syringe (with no needle of course) & squeeze the medicine directly into their mouth? --- Or do you mean you add the paste to their feed so they take it that way?--

& someone mentioned you worm kids at 4wks, is that at the same rate as adults? (meaning 4x the horse dosing)?

Yes, pour on is literal. We use a 4 cc children's medicine dropper to apply it JUST like Frontline or Advantage on a dog. And yes, paste wormers come in those syringes and are orally administered.

And, yes - we deworm kids at the same rate PER POUND as an adult would be. IE the pour on is 1 cc per 22 lbs, so our kids on average get 1/2 cc. Same dosage rate, different dose by weight. Make sense?

That concerns me a bit, might be soremouth.

I purchased food-grade DE from a woman who had an organic foods/supplement store on eBay, or you might be able to find it at your local health food store. Make sure it's food grade... It's pretty inexpensive and lasts a long time. I only use a tiny bit at a time.
