Will getting 2 drakes affect how my female acts?

Do not get more than one drake for 5 hens. They have very long penises and can pull out hen innards from overbreeding. I really don’t see how Patos has managed that ratio but ducks like to breed in hiding spots and they definable need water. I personally can not sit out there and distract my paddle to leave each other alone all day. Maybe Patos is a duck whisperer and I applaud your efforts!
Our ducks were from 2 older parents and the have been together as a flock for 6 months- they have all they need and I do talk to them all day- we can see the duck run from our living room!- this makes it easy to watch and intervene if needed- I have seen many behaviors and I consider what we are doing a masters course....

We had 5 ducks and 2 drakes (silver Appleyard), and it worked well with management. One of our drakes died suddenly (RIP Piglet), so now we have a 1 drake to 5 duck ratio. Again, it requires management, but we really enjoy having a drake around in terms of the way the flock acts. He is very vigilant and is constantly calling them all together when they spread out. He works diligently on the nests, and he is so handsome. Several of the girls really like being with him too. At certain times (like now) we do have to keep him separate from two of the girls when we are not around, which is pretty easy with our set-up. We have two pastures side-by-side and we just mix it up so the aggression is kept to a minimum. At night, he stays with his favorite girl in a portion of the run that is fenced off so everyone can be right next to each other without problems.

Bottom line, having a drake around can have benefits for the flock, but I would not exceed a 1:5 ration unless you are really set-up to separate them appropriately. Even with a 1:5 ratio, I think it works best for folks who can be very hands on and have the appropriate set-up for separating groups at certain times of the year.

Drakes should be used for hatching egg packaging lol. Give them some straw and watch them! I mean packed lol

If any of you own geese or other waterfowl and you have a drake living with them, the drake will become very obsessed with this “egg packing” and won’t allow some to sit. I had to separate my ducks because my goose was trying to sit and messing up his nest and would never let her hatch.

I have no clue what your talking about? What is packing supposed to mean?
