As long as they have access to the coop, they should still go in there to lay.

If you want to have a better chance of getting them to lay in the coop. Keep them in the coop for a week or 2 after they start laying, then that's where they will most likely want to lay. I can let mine out, and as long as the door is open, they will go to the coop to lay. They don't have an instinct to lay in a box, so putting one out in the freerange area will not attract them.
