Will I Ever Be Done With The Urge To Buy More Chicken stuff!

I wouldn't reccomended youtube for anything chicken related, there's loads of misinformation and hype for bad practices out there.
They can stay in a tree limb....until the raccoons or owls find them. Unfortunately, chickens can't see at night.
Well, I do watch a lot of You Tube video's. I agree some can be misleading, however, most are educational. I've done enough research to know who I don't believe. Thank you for your input. I will be cautious of what I've learned and what to believe. Thank you.

Wow, that's great information! I'm assuming they all get along? My kids do want Easter Eggs for sure. So maybe drop the white layer chicken, will they still get along with 2 of the same? (I feel like it middle school choosing friends! Lol).I definitely do not want any roosters, I know better than that! Lol
Yes, if you get them all the same age at the same time (usually day old), they'll get along fine.

Heat is important no matter what time of year you get them. I also recommend the mama heating pad that was suggested.

You can pick up chicks at a lot of locations. Feed stores, local breeders, or hatcheries. Ideal Hatchery is a large TX based Hatchery that has a huge variety of breeds. Just shop around to decide what you want. Good luck!

Thank you, I'll look into all that info. Sounds like I will need to find some Hatcheries to get different chicks. Do yiu know if Tractor Supplies has that much variety?

Most farm supply stores have an assortment of breeds. Sometimes a few regular popular breeds (like leghorn, barred rock, easter eggers, and rhode island red) and several different breeds each week.

Most of them would also be willing to special order chicks for you if you know what breeds you want and it's not something they typically get. It would probably be a good idea to call and ask if they do special orders. Or chat with an employee in the livestock section while you're there getting supplies ready for your new babies.

Before you go to the feed store, you need to know the term “straight run”. It means the chicks are not sexed so you could get cockerels. You want only pullets. Again, I would suggest cream leg bars and welsummers because they are easily sexed at the hatcheries. Both breeds are very friendly and lay pretty eggs. Of all the breeds I’ve raised, crested cream legbars have been the friendliest.

Rural King farm supply ( like TSC) usually has a great variety if you have one in your area. 🙂

I just ordered chicks from Ideal last month. They're doing great, and I recommend them as well.

Thank you, good to know. The last thing I want is a Rooster! 😀
