Will mama hen protect her chicks?

We have a new mama and she has the chicks in the coop with everyone else. Nobody seems to bother the chicks at all. I would say leave them all together. The only trouble we have is the rooster keeps pecking at mama and pulling her feathers. She was his favorite before she went broody so I think he is still mad at her. Just a jealous man rooster!

I have a little Cochin that was broody for the longest time. She finally ventured outside the coop. Shortly after, I introduced a couple of teen chicks to the flock . She took to them right away, I want to stick a couple of new chick's under her a couple of nights from now. Will it be okay, since she hasn't been broody? Will she protect them from the teens?

I know this is an old post but I'm really curious to know if you tried introducing your hen to new chicks? If so, did it work out?

Lots of times they won’t,but I still like keeping hen separated till the chicks get the hang of flight.
Yes,soem mother hens go out their way.Just yesterday I had a mothe then get killed by a fox,she had to have given her life for her babies as it is in their natural instinct to keep predators from their babies and I’m pretty for sure that’s what she did,her fetahers were in the complete opposite direction of all her babies,it’s so sad,I feel so sorry for her babies as they were looking all around for her,she was a brave mother.
