Will my broody hen raise chicks?

My poor hen has been broody over a month. We don't have a rooster and she has been sitting on a golf ball or other hens eggs.

If I get day old chicks and place them under her at night, will she raise them?

She might. Your best chances are to put the chicks in with her at night. Make sure they are only a day or two old. She may reject older chicks.

I agree with new2chooks. Wait until it is dark and slip the chicks (not usually more than 4 or 5 in total) under her wings. Wait around a bit to gauge her reaction and be ther again at first light if she doesn't reject them immediately.
