I wasnt sure where to post this but considering he's a meat chicken i decided to just post it here. I received Bagel (in a bagel box hense why my mother gave him the name) from one of my mothers clients who raised broilers. Well Bagel had some sort of splayed leg and was very hungry/dehydrated. His siblings were pecking and trampling over him as well which probably made it even harder to get food and water. Well after several months Bagels leg got better and he walks/runs with very little evidence of his injury. My question revolves aeound his size though. His siblings were culled around two months ago but Bagel is still nowhere near the size to be butchered (not that he will be, hes got a permanent residence now lol) and doesnt seem to be growing a whole lot. Ive pretty much already assumed he wont be growing to a normal size for a rooster but was just wondering if anyone had a similar situation, and how big their chicken grew...? Ok im done now lol. Props to you if you read all that haha

I read recently that if a very young animal is deprived of nutrients (food, minerals, etc) that animal cannot 'make up' the growth difference later on. Meaning, a young chicken that is deprived of food enough to slow its growth while young will never be able to attain its genetic potential no matter how long it lives. (Which I guess is why it's so important to make sure chicks, piglets, calves etc get every ounce of nutrients they need during the very young portion of their lives).
I don't know much about the specifics so I don't know if this is the case for Bagel, but I suppose it is a possibility.
Hopefully someone who actually knows will show up soon. Good luck with Bagel!
