I have a rhode island red hen that has laid a nest of ten eggs now. Do you think she will go broody or should I remove the eggs from her nest? I'm not sure but 10 eggs sounds like a lot even for a big hen like she is.

If she is a hatchery sourced bird, it is highly unlikely she will go broody. That trait costs the hatcheries money and they breed it out.

If she hasn't already been on those eggs and determined to stay on them, growling at you if you try to take the eggs, I doubt she's broody. You've just got a pile of eggs growing older by the day, I fear. Sorry.

If you want a broody, get a silkie. They are used to hatch many different types of eggs. It's said a silkie will hatch a rock if she could! They are great mothers and are by far the most broody breed. She won't mind if they are not her eggs! She will happily hatch anything. People even use silkies to hatch quail. Above post is right most hatcheries breed out the broody, but if you get a silkie from a breeder, she will surely hatch your eggs for you. Hope this helps and best wishes.
