Will my chickens get sick on grass?

We are building a chicken coop which will include a good sized grassed area for our 2 laying hens and 2 meat king pets. None of them, to date, have had any access to grass really. We have mowed and racked the area but by the time they get in it the grass will probably be a good 6 to 7 inches long. Can they just go to town on this grass or do I have to limit/monitor their time on it at first...(like you would with a horse?). Thanks, in advance, for any input on this as I am relatively new to chickens.

do you use any fertilizer or pesticide/herbicide on your grass?

if not they probably will be fine

i let my chickens (after brought them home from the pet store) out in the pen on day 1.. (they were 2-3 weeks old at the time though)

Thanks for your reply. : ) They are fine on it...just scratching and pecking around...not going to town on it. And good point, but we don't use any pesticides or anything so we're all good that way also. They love the grass and the freedom of their new area. : )
