We just had a surprise! One of our hens hatched 7 chicks! We were able to separate them and the mama from the rest of the flock but they are still outside. It's going to be around 54°F tonight in our part of Arizona. Will the chicks survive under their mama? Or do they need a heat lamp? Thank you for your time!

Congratulations on the little hatchling! Don't worry, mama hen will keep them all snug and warm. I was worried about the same thing with our first broody raised chicks 😅

Thank you! I'm so happy I found this site! I feel better about leaving them to do their thing now 😁

There be just fine I’ve had hens raise chicks in winter where it’s In the single digits or negative I mean it’s better for them not to have chicks during winter cause how cold it is but I’ve had chicks get raised in winter and be just fine there also from what I’ve seen they get use to the cold cause the chicks won’t get as cold and be just fine in like 40 degrees or less without the hen sitting on them to stay warm it’s best to raise chicks outside also it gets them use to the weather
