Hi I am a new chicken keeper I have been keeping chickens for 2 years I recently lost all my girls except one she was in the coop broody . So I bought a few chicks and but them under betsy about 10 days ago, everthing is fine all doing well !!! But this is where I need some help will my chicks beable to use the ramp ??? How long will it be before she wants to bring them out ?? Any help would be super

Welcome to BYC from West TN ! Sorry for your loss of your girls. Hopefully adoptive Momma will teach them how to get up and down they will usually follow well. Just check on them and see. Did you fix the problem as far as the loss is concerned?

It would help if you post a photo. Is it a long ramp, or very steep one? Chicks are more inclined to use it if it doesn't scare them. If it is slippery they won't use it - do you have some cross strips across it so they keep their footing? Sometimes they are too afraid because the sides of a ramp are open.

Most of the time, those babies are going to follow mom! Anywhere! So, make sure the ramp isn't too steep, don't want any falling to far. :)

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

So sorry you lost your flock. Yes, Momma will know when to bring the babies out and they will follow her everywhere. Make sure the ramp is not too steep or not chick friendly. If you don't think they can manage, you can use a temporary ramp so they can get up and down until they are bigger to use the one you have as a ramp now.

Good luck with your momma and her babies and welcome to our flock!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! As everyone else said, the chicks will try to follow their mother, but If the chicks are ten days old they should be pretty mobile, I am surprised she is not already bringing them out.

Hi my hen has been eating chick crumb will she is with her chicks , but yesterday started laying again should she now be having layers pellets again ?
