Will my chicks follow me when they are grown up?

I have two 11 day old chicks. When I bring them outside, they follow me EVERYWHERE! It feels great!

However, I was wondering today if my chicks will do it when they are grown up hens too. I don't have a fenced in yard, so its important they stay close to me.

Yes.

Every time my chickens are iin the backyard (outside the run) and I open the back door they run to me and then follow me around.

I have 2 baby chicks I hatched out myself and they follow me around. I have to be carful not to step on them! LOL

Mine definitely have a mind of their own and we don't have a fenced in yard, but:

- They come running to me every-so-often, especially if I squat down looking at them. They know I'm lookin' for them/checkin up on them.
- They usually stay in groups... 4 and 4 or all 8 together roaming around.
- One always seems to be the look-out
- I've never seen them try to leave the yard - we have tree-lines, a rock wall, and the road - they don't like the front yard/road too much. They come running back after getting about 30-40 ft away and a car goes by!lol!

Oh my...they will be under feet 24/7! I practically step on mine every time I go outside!

I do love them though! They are adorably cute. We had someone come pick up chicks today and my hens were following them back to their truck LOL

This makes me very happy to hear! I love it when my little chicks follow me around, I feel like a Jedi with mind power force fields and an important mama hen.

Do you think I should reinforce the behavior by giving them treats every time they come running? Or does nature do the training for me?
