So heres the story. We recently hatched 10 chicks. All of them are mixed breeds but the parents were heritage breed chickens. The father of all of the chicks is a silver Ameraucana rooster. The mothers are of the following breeds: rhode island red, barred rock, black laced red Wyandotte, australorp and Easter eggers. Now I have many more brown layer than green or blue. Out of all the eggs that hatched 3 or 4 were blue. I honestly don't remember. I assume they are going to lay blue. What is the chance with the rest? Is it 50/50? I'm asking because someone wants to buy 5 of them from me and I don't want to guarantee that they'e gonna lay blue eggs or that they are Easter eggers if I don't know for sure. They are only 1 week old so I can't tell really. Most have dark legs. 2 have totally yellow like a wyandotte. Don't know if that matters.

If the Ameraucana rooster is pure, he will pass on his blue egg gene to his offspring. !00% of his daughters will lay blue/green eggs regardless who the mother was. If the mother was a brown egg chicken, the daughters will lay green eggs. If the mother was a blue egg layer, the daughters should lay blue eggs. Now these are going to be mix breeds. If you want to continue getting blue/green eggs you will have to breed these chicks to another pure Ameraucana. If the chicks are bred together, the eggs may be blue/green or brown.

What about the reverse? I have Maran roosters on blue and blueish green egg layers right now. Hatched some out that should start laying in mid to late winter. What can I expect? And what type of egg color(s) should I expect from the males?

Big IF.
If pure, the AM has 2 blue egg genes....so offspring should lay blue or green dependent on other parent.
Anything else chance goes down to 50%.
